Mundo Hot Springs – Cambridge Idaho

Mundo Hot Springs was the right place at the right time.  I have seen the sign on the highway for years while driving to Boise, but I had never been there.  Yesterday I was coming back from one of my adventures when my van tried to strand me in Halfway Oregon.  For some reason the alternator stopped charging.  I decided, since it has two big rv batteries, that I could charge them up and maybe make it home.  I bought a charger and charged them for 1 1/2 hours and then decided to go around 5pm.  The road from Halfway Oregon to Cambridge Idaho winds down into Hells Canyon and then across a damn and back up the Idaho side.  It was getting dark by the time I made it to Cambridge so I decided to stop for the night and charge up again.  A quick google search on my phone for rv parks showed Mundo Hot Springs and one other park.  That was an easy choice for me since I love hot springs.

I left the van running while I checked in.  I was very fortunate that they had ONE spot left.  My adventures always seem to include some un-foreseen problem but then it works out.  Otherwise, where would the adventure be? Well on this evening I was looking forward to plugging in to charge and then soaking my worries away, but…….I didn’t back up close enough for my van cord to plug in and I turned off the van.  Of course, it wouldn’t start again so I asked Sophie, the owner, if they had an extension cord to make up the distance.  She didn’t, but she found Tim and he had one.  Soon I was soaking in the hot spring pool, gazing up at the stars.  It felt amazing.

After my soak, I went inside to pick up my burger which I had ordered while checking in.  Sophie had waited to start it so that it would be warm still for me.  While she cooked, I talked with Tim and Kolbie about photography and good places to see wildlife.  Everyone was very friendly and the customer service was great.  The burger was great too.  They source the meat and produce locally and hand patty the burgers.  I had the Mundo Burger that had sauteed mushrooms and ham on flatbread.  The next morning I wandered around and snapped these pics.  I wanted to get a pic of the stars the night before, but I was too tired.  The view from behind Mundo Hot Springs is quite nice.

How lucky are these cows? Hot springs and awesome views!

You can view all the pictures in my Gallery.  I recommend stopping by Mundo Hot Springs if you get the chance.  They rent rv spots, a hostel, and a pool house.  They have the Bistro with good food and of course the pool.  You can find more info at their webpage www.mundohotsprings.com or follow them on facebook.
